Obituary of Joan G. Sweet

Joan Guillard Sweet Joan Guillard Sweet of Pennsville, formerly of Saxton, PA passed away Friday 09-June-2017. She is survived by son Robert, Jr. of Pennsville, and daughters Rebecca of Pottstown, PA, Jennifer Sweet-DeVice and her husband Frank of West Grove, PA, and daughter-in-law Karen R. Sweet of Whitehouse Station, NJ. Also surviving Joan are 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 70 years Robert L. in 2016, son Stephen G., parents Frank and Johanna Morton Guillard of Saxton, as well as 2 brothers, Peter and Jack, and 2 half-brothers, Matthew and Dick. Joan was a homemaker who cared dearly for her family, especially her special-needs son Linc. She loved Big Band music and reading, was a fabulous cook, and could cut quite a rug in her day. She especially loved to regale her family and friends with stories of life in Saxton, particularly of being the daughter of Saxton's only physician for many years and traveling with him to house calls, accompanied by the family's German Shepherd 'Uno' and the 7 puppies that always traveled on those calls as well. Orphaned at the age of 16, she was at enrolled at Lycoming College and attained an Associates' degree. The family would like to thank the many individuals who cared for Jo in her later years, especially Linda Mosley, Audra Mahoney, Jim Patterson, Mary Lawrence, and Salem Home and Hospice Care personnel. Thanks too to her dear friends, many of whom go back many years, as well as the neighbors who kept in touch and supported all of us with their thoughts and prayers over the last few years.
