Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernard J. McLaughlin, lll age 90 of Pennsville, NJ passed away peacefully at home following a brief illness. He was born in Carneys Point, NJ and was the son of the late Bernard J. McLaughlin, Jr. and Mary Lounsbury McLaughlin. Benny was a lifelong Salem County resident. Ben left a legacy of love – a love of family, love of country, love of life. He died peacefully at home on June 6 after a brief illness. Ben was retired from DuPont Chambers Works and was a member of the Pennsville Auxiliary Police where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. During his approximately 15 years of duty, but his favorite assignment was helping all the ladies crossing the road for Sunday Church. After retirement, everyone knew him as "Mr. Benny," who drove for the Pennsville School District and its sports teams. His life was full of friendships with his contemporaries through his long career with DuPont and with younger generations as a Little League baseball coach and midget football coach. Benny's snarky sense of humor and mischievous grin will be missed. He now joins our Mom on the Heavenly front porch. Ben was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Cox) of 60 years, his sisters Cissie (Dolores) McKie, Shirley Haines, and brother, John. He is survived by his sons, Bud (Marianne) of Huntsville, AL and Jim (Jeannie) and his daughters, Cindy McLaughlin and Andrea (Rich) Sosnowik, all of Pennsville; 9 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, his sister Mary Jane (Joe) Hudock of Elsinboro and brother Hugh (Dottie) of Texas, along with many nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Penns Grove Re-Hi and a decorated Veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious valor in combat. Visitation will be Saturday, June 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Laughrey Funeral Home in Pennsville, with a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Salem County Veterans Cemetery.
