Retired Vietnam veteran Robert Elmer (Bob) McComb Jr., 78, of Pennsville, NJ passed away on April 20, 2024 after facing many medical challenges. He was a fun, loving, caring, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to many people who will be greatly missed by all.
Robert, known by family and friends as Bob, Bobby, Uncle Bobby, Bruiser or Boink, was born in Philadelphia to Robert E. and Edna McComb, Sr. on June 8, 1945. He attended Deptford High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam war. Following honorable discharge, Bob's work history included working for the Chrysler corporation, Pennsville Township, and the Office equipment maintenance field.
Bob enjoyed life as a member of the VFW, Sakima Country Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed playing sports and was involved with men's basketball and baseball leagues in his earlier years in Pennsville, playing golf and hanging out at the Sakima club, playing tickets and hanging out at the PV VFW, the monthly reunions with his longtime friends and classmates, and being involved in the lives of his three daughters, their families and his brothers and sisters.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Michelle McComb of Carney Point, Terry Matczak of West Deptford, Chrissy (Dave) Richards of Indianapolis; sisters: Dot Donahue, Margie Reeve, Carol (Jack) Creghan, and brother Pete (Carla) Como. Grandchildren: Matthew (Akiho) Matczak, Brittany (Nick) Gipson, Bill Lowry, Casey Lowry, Ryan Cooper, Lacy Matczak (Ross Geaman), Ryan Cooper and Gregg Marcell; great-grandkids Gracelyn, Everly and Parker; along with many nieces and nephews.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, Robert E. McComb Sr. and Edna Tinschmidt, Stepfather Pete Como, sister Roberta Bannon and grandson Dillon Brainard.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Joann Williams for taking care and watching over Bob in his time of need.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 27th at the Pennsville VFW from 1-5 pm. We look forward to sharing the many stories and memories of our father through the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pennsville VFW or the Salem County Humane Society.
