Obituary of Alice Joan Riley

Alice "Joan" (Kramer) Riley, age 79, passed away July 14, 2012 at Christiana Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born on June 22, 1933 and raised in Clayton, NJ. She graduated from Trenton State College and was a life-long physical education teacher in Pennsville, Salem and Clayton. Renowned for her many outstanding programs at Clayton Elementary School, especially her annual gymnastics show, Joan retired in 1988. Joan was a member of The Salem Country Club, the Elsinboro VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1066 Women's Auxiliary. She loved golfing, gardening, playing bridge and hand and foot, reading books, crossword puzzles, slot machines, Ocean City, frying fish, sunshine and spending time with her family and many friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Charles "Pop" and Miriam (Warner) Kramer, her sisters, Barbara Defeo and Ellen Daily, and her brother, Charles "Chip" Kramer. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Sidney L. Riley of Elsinboro; her son, Michael Riley and his wife, Fran, of Pennsville; her daughter, Sydney Joan Cochran and her husband, Tom, of Channahon IL; and four grandchildren, Krista K (Cochran) VanAltvorst and her husband, David, of Glendora; Tom Cochran of Glendora; Michael Riley of Pennsville; and Brian Riley of Pennsville. A Memorial service will be held 6:00 PM Wednesday July 18th at Laughrey Funeral Home, One North Broadway, Pennsville, NJ where family and friends are invited from 4-6 PM prior to the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elsinboro Fire Company, 35 Delaware Avenue, Salem, NJ 08079 or to the charity of your choice.
