Obituary of Thomas R. McCaffery

Thomas R. McCaffery, 62 of Pennsville, went home to be with the Lord on March 20th, 2014. He passed with his wife by his side along with family and friends and the support of Salem Hospice Care. Born to the late Joseph (Gus) & Celia (Nay) McCaffery in Old New Castle DE. He was a 1969 graduate of H. Fletcher Brown Vo Tech in Wilmington DE, and went on to receive his electrician's certification. He had over 40 years of service for DuPont Chambers Works as an electrician and 11 years working as a toll collector for the Delaware Memorial Bridge. He is survived by his wife of 22 years Mary Ann Pitts McCaffery, his son Brendan McCaffery; step children, David Sowers, Jr. (Amber), Shannon Sowers Beardsley (Jeff), Kimberly Sowers Reyes; 9 Grandchildren Alexis, Haylee, Kara, Kaylin, Carly Jo, Reece, Wyatt, Rylee, Rylan; Brothers Curt Pritchard of New Castle; Ron & John McCAffery of Old New Castle; sister Gwen McCaffery Watson of Newark, and many loving relatives along with life long friends Pete Toner of Old New Castle and Ed Toner of Texas. Growing up Tom was a Cub Scout and Boy Scouts of St. Peter's troop 72 of New Castle. He was also an assistant Scout Master of Troop 15 in Pennsville, NJ. Tom loved his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He enjoyed helping others, watching Jeopardy, Ocean City Beach and traveling. He was proud of his Irish Heritage. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday March 25, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville where friends may call Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
