Heaven welcomed its newest angel the morning of June 11, 2014 with the passing of John M. Lake, Jr. Jack, as everyone knew him, was born on October 10, 1929. Born and raised in Carneys Point, Jack was a 1947 graduate of PGHS. He also attended Salem Community College. He lived in Pennsville most of his adult life until moving to Eustis, Florida several years ago. Jack retired from DuPont Chambers Works with 38 years of service. He was also a retired First Sgt. with the NJ Army National Guard, serving 21 years. Jack was involved in local politics serving 12 years on the Pennsville Twp. Committee and 12 years as a Salem County Freeholder. He served 6 years as the Chairman of the Freeholder Board. Always active in the community, Jack was the Chairman of the first Pennsville Septemberfest in 1977, a longtime member and past President of the local Rotary, and past member of the Sportsmen's Club, Masonic Lodge 54 and Servicemen's Home. He was involved with Meals on Wheels as a volunteer. He was a current member of the PG Historical Society and Trinity United Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed golf, rooting for the Eagles and Phillies and travel. Besides his wife and family, the thing Jack loved the most was being able to bring a smile or laugh to someone either with a joke, good conversation or just a compassionate ear. Jack considered everyone a friend and always looked for the good in all of us. Jack was predeceased by his mother, Blanche Bothwell Lake, his father, John M. Lake, Sr. (Mack) and his brother and best friend, William B. Lake. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ella (Flickinger), his daughter Jody Lake Sealy (Mark) and his son, John (Mack) M. Lake, III (Donna). He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Leeland, Marcus, Laura, Stephen, Melissa and Jennifer as well as 8 great grandchildren, his brothers Manny and Linwood Lake and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday June 16, at the Laughrey Funeral Home Pennsville where friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Monday one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro. Please send donations to Ranch Hope for Boys in Alloway, NJ or to the charity of ones' choice.
