Obituary of Joseph P. Cioci, Sr.
Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph P. Cioci, Sr., age 84, of Pennsville died July 12, 2014 at his daughter Stacy Sherman's home in Alloway, New Jersey, after a short illness. He was accompanied by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marie L. Cioci (nee: Liable) and family and friends. Born in Pennsgrove, New Jersey, son of Paulo and Louisa Cioci, he is survived by his wife: Marie, son: Joseph P. Cioci, Jr. (wife: Margie), of Seabrook, Texas, daughter: Stacy Sherman(Husband: Bruce), Alloway, NJ and six grandchildren: Nickolaus Cioci, Keith Cioci(wife: Lauren), Scott Cioci, Jill Cioci, Joshua Sherman and Jacqueline Sherman. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Bomba, and was predeceased by a brother, Paul Cioci, and a sister, Mary LaFage.
"Big Joe" grew up in Pennsgrove, graduated from Pennsgrove High School and served in the US Army for two years during the Korean War. He worked at Du Pont (Chamber Works, Plant 1, and Stine Haskell Labs) until his retirement in 1989. Joe volunteered for the Red Cross, "CARE" of Florida, and enjoyed playing Santa for approximately 20 years at Mannington Mills. Joe loved gardening, fishing, bike riding, long walks, and working out with his friends at Mannington Fitness Center, but most of all, loved being a "pop pop" to his six grandchildren, who adored him. He was very, very proud of them all. He enjoyed his travels to Europe and Asia with his Wife, Marie and wonderful friends in his later years.
Joe was most of all a family man. He and his wife Marie were virtually inseparable, but in addition, he loved spending time with his extended family, including nieces, nephews, their spouses and children, and many friends from all walks of life. He was beloved by all who knew him for his kindness, compassion, sense of humor and boundless energy. He was selfless and humble, despite an amazing spectrum of mechanical skills and diverse hobbies. He was a self taught and successful stock market and real estate investor. He was known in his early years and even into his late adulthood for his incredible physical strength and stamina, but to those who knew him well, this was outweighed by his gentleness, modesty and sensitivity to everyone he spent time with and encountered. His family and many friends will all miss him profoundly, and will never forget the joy he brought into their lives.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday July 16, at the Queen of the Apostles RC Church, Pennsville.
