Obituary of John R. Rice

John R. Rice "Gramps", age 83 of Pennsville, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 16, 2014 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born on May 28, 1931 in Vineland, NJ. John was the only child of the late Alfred Rice and Fern Pickering Rice. He lived most of his life in Pennsville, NJ. John was a US Navy Korean War Veteran and worked as an operator at the DuPont Chambers works where he retired in 1991 following 25 years service. John is survived by his wife Catherine Land Rice of Pennsville, daughters, April Rice Hogan (Mark) of Newark, DE and Julie Rice Dolbow (Jeff) of Pennsville, NJ and only grandson, Daulton John Dolbow of Pennsville, NJ. John will be remembered as one of the all-time biggest Phillies fan since his first game at Connie Mack Stadium in 1938. John was also an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday August 20, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service.
