Marguerite Anna Jane (Friebel) Mahoney, age 104, of (Mahoneyville) Pennsville, NJ passed away peacefully at her home on Jan 14, 2015 with her family by her side.
Marguerite was born in Salem, NJ, to Paul and Alison (nee Jack) Friebel on November 24, 1910, the youngest of 7 children. She graduated from Salem High School, class of 1929 and attended Camden Business School. She was employed at the DuPont Chambers Works until her marriage. Marguerite managed the DJ Mahoney General Store from 1959 until 1975. She was a member of Saint Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church and participated in a variety of volunteer organizations including serving as Salem Memorial Hospital Volunteer. She was an avid swimmer, spending countless hours in her pool with family and friends.
Marguerite is survived by her loving children, Mary M. Kurtz of Wildwood Crest, NJ, James R. Mahoney, Jr. (Betsy) of Kingwood, TX, Dennis J. Mahoney (Kitty) of Mahoneyville, NJ and Kathryn A. Steiger (John) of Cape May, NJ, grandchildren: Alfred Kurtz, Jr., James Kurtz (Beth Ann), Theresa Pale (Christian), John Steiger, Jr., Erin Roberts (Owen), Katie Mahoney, and Ryan Mahoney (Kristal), and great grandchildren, Micaela, Jimmy, Mariann, Johan Kurtz; Sophia, Sammy and Seraphina Pale and Aiden Roberts, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. Mahoney, Sr. and her brothers: Alex, Paul, Felix, Edmund and Walter Friebel and her sister, Alice DeFrancesco. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many care takers and aides and nurses.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Queen of Apostles RC Church, 391 South Broadway, Pennsville, NJ, on Monday, January 19, 2015. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Walnut St and Grieves Pkwy, Salem, NJ. Visitation will be held at Laughery Funeral Homer on Sunday, January 18, from 7pm-9pm and Monday, January 19 from 9:00AM-10:30 AM.
