Obituary of William V. Russell

William Verlon Russell of Pennsville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Born in a log cabin 78 years ago in Otto, North Carolina , he was the son of the late Roxie and Harrison Russell. Bill was affectionately known by many names like Verlon, Rebel, or Pops. He never knew a stranger and always willingly lending a hand to those who needed help. In 2001 he retired from Siegfried Chemicals in Pennsville and attended Haines Neck Methodist Church in Mannington. His brother Lamar Conley, sisters Catherine Seagle and Marie Putnam predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Delores E. Russell, his children Roxanne Thomas (James) of Walkersville, MD, granddaughters Lauren E. Thomas of Martinsburg, WV and Kaitlyn F. Thomas of Dover, DE. William T.H. Russell (Joann) of Pennsville and step granddaughter Mandi Todd of Pennsville, He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins, his church family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday August 15, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville where friends may call Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Burial will be at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown.
