Obituary of Claire G. Cobb
Please share a memory of Claire to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
(Sue) Claire Geneva Cobb nee Durham passed away at 4:15 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2011 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family. She was born in Deepwater, NJ at home on July 4, 1937 to the late Joseph T. Durham Sr. of Collingswood NJ and Claire Lorraine Durham (nee Curley) of Pennsylvania. She was a former employee of Anchor Hocking, Salem and F&M Dress Factory, Pennsville. She was a member of the Pennsville Fire and Rescue Women's Auxiliary and she was a cheerful giver. She donated many handmade crocheted afghans and dollies for various fundraising events including the Marine Corps, Pennsville Youth League, Pennsville Band Boosters, March of Dimes and American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. She enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's events, visiting with family and friends, 3:15 Tea Time, playing the piano, sewing, dancing, home remodeling, Bingo, going to Atlantic City Casinos and Delaware Park. She was an absolute artist at her craft of crocheting. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Tyrus K Cobb Sr, beloved dog Sparky, children Debra Gray (Wayne), Judy Degges, Tyrus Jr., Gerald (Elizabeth), Cheryl Widen, Charles (Terri), grandchildren, which she adored, Dione Gray, Christy Gray, Michelle Cobb, William Degges IV, Sarah Widen, Jessica Cobb, Katelynn Scott, Victoria Cobb and great grandchild Melania Meyers, brother Wilbur S Durham (Mildred), sister Barbara L Durham and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Joseph T and Claire L Durham, brothers Joseph T Durham and Alvin H. Durham (Carol), nieces Connie and Edna (nee Durham). If you met our mom once she was your friend for life. She opened her home to many in need and never refused a soul. It didn't matter if she knew you for 25 minutes, years or a lifetime, she would find your favorite color and crochet you an afghan. Only a friend and a mother could make something so beautiful to comfort you when you were down, not feeling well or just needed a hug. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 17at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, NJ where friends and family may visit between 10:00 and 11:00 AM with interment to follow at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Memorial Home Health and Hospice 390 North Broadway Pennsville, NJ 08070 or to the American Cancer Society 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd., Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
