From the day I met Betty we became instant friends. She was easy to like and we shared many gab sessions and fun times. Her sudden and unexpected loss is hitting us hard here at Pennsville Towers. We know she is out of suffering and pain and with her beloved husband Joe but in our own selfishness we wish we could laugh with her one more time. As I write this, her favorite organ player, Ruth Brown, is playing her favorite hymn "When we all get to heaven" and everyone here is gathering to enjoy the many hymns our friend can play by heart. It is so comforting to hear and as our tears flow we thank God for the short time we had with Betty. We send love and comfort to her beautiful family we saw many times as they came to visit and care for her. Rest my friend. I'll see you again one day.

My sincerest condolences for the tragic loss of such a beautiful, wonderful, loving, kind, sincere, honest, strong and great human being that Betty was. I will always hold her close to my heart, forever. I loved her so much and as I did your dad. My heart is truly broken.

Dear Patty, Joey and the entire McMann family:
I am so very sorry to hear of my dear friend’s passing, that wonderful woman you called “mom.” It’s truly a sad day. My thoughts and prayers are with you. She’s reunited with the man she personally told me was her “best friend” my man “the giant.” I always called her “Bett” but that wasn’t to be disrespectful but because I thought of her as a friend, not just a friend’s mom. Bett was one of a kind and unique. In one of my first encounters with her I was fed lobster from her favorite vacation spot, Boothbay Harbor. It was awesome to know that I was always welcome in the McMann house even when Patty wasn’t home. I can honestly say part of me “grew up” there as a teenager until about 22 years old. I remember coming to back to Pennsville every Friday from college to work my weekend job and after I packed up for the week on Sunday evenings I never left Pennsville without visiting my friend on Highland Avenue for coffee and an easy 2-hour chat. She wanted the best for her kids and nothing less including make all of their friends welcome. I could talk to Mrs. Mac about anything, and that went for all of Patty’s friends: John, Richie, Glenda, Michele, and the list goes on. Any of us could go there and talk and she never, ever pried into anyone’s business. She made you comfortable enough to discuss issues and know you’d be getting great advice and it would stay confidential. We all learned some life-long lessons from her. I’ll never forget those Friday / Saturday nights at the infamous Tom’s Tavern and when we didn’t want the night to end. Patty would give me that quarter for the phone call “Joe, call my mom and ask if we can all come over for a couple of beers…she NEVER says NO to Joseph Anthony.” LOL. “Yo, Bett it’s Joseph Anthony can we come over puuuuulease….just for one.” Haha. I’d get this sigh followed by “yeah, Joseph come on over.” Most moms would have went crazy but Bett sucked it up and allowed us into her home at 1:30-2am in the morning to have that “one last beer.” She loved all of Patty’s friends and wanted us to be safe and not out on the streets being stupid so always opened her home allowed that one beer, then made sure the coffee pot was brewing away making sure we OK to drive home. What a GREAT, great lady. Gone but not forgotten.
I’m extremely disappointed I will be unable to attend the church service on Sunday as I have a commitment with the NFL after a recent promotion and have been assigned to work this Sunday in Philadelphia.
Hugs and prayers (lots of them) to Patty, Joey and your families. I’m sure you will miss her and loved her dearly, I sure did!
Love, “Joseph Anthony”
