Obituary of Joan C. Cogan

Joan C. Cogan age 88, passed away on the morning of January 30th, 2019. She was a resident of Pennsville, NJ since 1954. Born in Woodbury NJ and the daughter of Fredrick and Arabelle Wilson and sister of Fredrick (Fritz) Wilson, deceased. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Francis J. Cogan Jr, both attended Pitman High School. She leaves behind three children: 2 sons, Francis (Rusty) and wife Allyson Cogan, Thomas and wife Joni Cogan, and daughter Patricia (Patty) and husband Bill Ferrell Jr. Joan also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Joan worked in the Pennsville school system for over 15 years. While belonging to the Lutheran Church of St Ambrose, she participated in the church choir, the knitting group that supplies prayer shawls, blankets, knitted hats for hospitals which was a very important mission to her, and the women's group WELCA. Joan, along with her husband Reds, were often seen supporting the Pennsville Rec League softball games. They were also long time members of the Septemberfest Committee. Until her death she was a volunteer every year at Septemberfest golf tournament. As a member of the Senior Circle group at Salem Hospital, she frequently attended trips and activities such as her week long Caribbean trip. Most Wednesdays she was either volunteering at the front desk of the hospital or playing cards with the group. Over many years Joan and Reds enjoyed camping, starting locally then enjoying the many memories traveling throughout the country. Their favorite spot, Myrtle Beach SC until they decided to stay in Florida half the year. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday February 9, at the St. Ambrose Lutheran Church 443 S. Broadway Pennsville, NJ where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will be private.
