Obituary of Michael G. Lopes

Michael G. Lopes, age 93 of Pennsville died Tuesday January 28, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Penns Grove, NJ. The son of the late Crespin Lopes, Sr. and Catherine Badolato Lopes. Michael was a lifelong Salem County resident. He was employed as a Purchasing Agent for the DuPont Chambers Works, Deepwater, NJ where he retired in 1980 following 38 years service. Following his retirement he worked for over 20 years as treasurer and manager for the Salem County School Employees Federal Credit Union. He was Instrumental in starting the Pennsville Recreation Department and served as Chairman and later Parade Marshal for the Septemberfest Parade. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and fought in the Pacific Theater. He was involved with the Pennsville Little League and Babe Ruth. He was an umpire and a charter member of the Delaware Valley Umpires Association. Mike was a member of the St. Gabriel The Archangel Parish-Queen of the Apostles Church, Pennsville. Survived by his 3 sons, Michael G. Lopes, II of Pennsville, Teodoro "Teo" Lopes of Pennsville, and Howard J. "HJ" and his wife Kristine, brothers, Crispin Lopes of Pennsville and Robert Lopes of NC, 2 grandchildren, Amanda and Zachary, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his wife, Josephine "FiFi" DiGioacchino Lopes (2006), brother, Stephen B. Lopes. Sr. (2020) sisters, Anna Dias Gochenauer and Dolly Touchstone. Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday February 3, 2020 from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, NJ Burial with honors of cremains will follow at the Gracelawn Memorial Park, Wilmington DE.
