James John Halter Sr. of Pennsville, NJ passed away on May 18, 2020 at Christiana Hospital with family by his side. He was born on March 29th, 1940 at Salem Memorial Hospital to Charles and Mary (Roach) Halter. James was a loving father, husband, grandfather and brother. Before marrying his one and only true love, Carolyn Briggs on July 12th, 1960, Jim enjoyed his childhood as one of the kids from Pig's Eye. Jim and Carolyn raised three children. He was a dedicated employee at Anchor Hocking for 36 years. Jim lived an honorable life, a man well respected by those that loved him. He enjoyed life with his family from traveling, watching his sons grow up as athletes to later watching his grandchildren play their sports. When his kids were growing up, Jim loved taking his sons hunting. He enjoyed going to the casinos with his wife and best friend Carolyn. Once retired Jim loved spending time working in the yard and perfecting his lawn. Jim appreciated the shows of the past, Lawrence Welk, Rifleman and Gunsmoke were a few of his favorites. He was enthusiastic in sharing the story lines of the characters and his knowledge of the roles the actors played in all his favorite programs. Jim was proud of his Irish heritage and loved Irish music and dancing. Jim had silly jokes that will be missed. He was sure all his jokes were good ones. Funny jokes or not, he made you laugh, even when he wasn't trying to. Jim had a presence about him that was genuine, easy and that just made you smile. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Carolyn Halter (Briggs); two sons, James (Julie) Halter Jr. of Pedricktown, NJ and Donald Halter Sr. of Fairless Hill, PA; devoted daughter Tammy (Darrin) Widger of Pennsville; sister Helen Gardner (Halter) of Port Orange, FL; and grandchildren James Halter III, Katie Halter, Donny Halter Jr., Taylor Halter, Nicolette Halter, Darrin Widger Jr., and Ryan Widger. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Mary (Roach) Halter and Charles Halter Sr., his twin sister Mary Margaret Halter, brothers Charles David Halter and Frank Roach Halter. Jim was a sweet soul. It was his time to go to God, yet we all realize life won't be the same without him. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date. www.laughreyfuneralhome.com
