Obituary of George R. Davidson

George Russell Davidson, 83, returned to his heavenly home on October 20, 2020 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. His devotion from his loving wife, Bea, his family and friends, paired with his belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. George was born to the late Hammond and Esther Davidson on August 21, 1937. He was raised in Milton, Delaware where he made lifelong friends. He voluntarily served in the Army. He was deployed to Korea during peace time, and was an honorary guard for a general. When he returned to the states he attended college at East Carolina University, and attained his teaching degree. He taught high school basic business courses in Smyrna, Delaware. He and his wife made many long lasting friendships there before they moved to Pennsville, New Jersey. He then taught typing and business courses at Pennsville Memorial High School/Junior High for 36 years. There along with teaching, he was the stage manager and light director for many of the high school plays and musicals. He also used his creativity to transform the high school gym into many elaborate prom events. He was very active in the Drug Alliance and once won the prestigious Volunteer of the Year Award. He spent his summers building sets for Oakwood Summer Theatre for 20+ years where he also served as Treasurer. George remained very involved at his church volunteering in many different areas including Administrative Board, Head of Worship Committee and the Men's group. He and Bea would help decorate for church events. Together they chaperoned many youth events both at their church and school. George was blessed with a devoted and loving family. He married his best friend who he dearly loved, Beatrice McBride, on June 30th, 1962 in Claymont, Delaware. George and Bea raised two children with patience, humility and faith. They took many summer trips to Ocean City, NJ and then later grandchildren and great grandchildren joined the tradition as well. Not a dry eye would be at the beach house when they danced to their wedding song. George was patient, kind, gentle, soft spoken and hardworking but one of his best qualities was his ability to just listen. He enjoyed puzzles both at the beach and at home, and even until the last few months of life would consistently try to read as learning was at the forefront of his life. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Lord and Savior. George is survived by his wife, Bea; his daughters Colleen and Cheryl and their loving husbands Hal and Alan, who George and Bea considered as sons: his grandchildren Sean, Cassie, Mark, and Hannah; and his great granddaughter Sage. He is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy; and his parents. A funeral is scheduled for George at Trinity United Methodist Church in Pennsville, NJ on Tuesday October 27th, 2020 at 10:00am with a one hour viewing preceding the service at 9:00am. There will also be a viewing Monday, October 26th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Church restrictions will follow CDC guidelines including wearing masks. George will be buried at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, DE. The family requests only your thoughts and prayers and sharing of memories.
